Definition of a Most Underrated Player

Most underrated in the Masterpoint Rating System.

If you have 1,000 Masterpoints, and you play at the same level as the average player with 5,000 Masterpoints, you are underrated.

If you have 5,000 Masterpoints, and you play at the same level as the average player with 1,000 Masterpoints, you are overrated.

Underrated players are the most desirable partners/teammates.

To calculate your underrate, convert your Masterpoint total to a Power Rating.  the Master Point to Power Rating conversion chart.  Subtract this from your actual Power Rating.  If your actual PR is less, you will have a negative UR and you will be overrated.

Overrate and underrate are not the fault of the players.  It is the major fault of the Masterpoint rating system.  In a perfect rating system there are no under or over rated players.  Just accurately rated players.

Is Power Ratings perfect?  No, but I run a test every month, Testing Power Ratings, that proves PR is much more accurate than Masterpoints.

This is an unfair knock on Masterpoints.  Masterpoints was created to be an Awards system, not a Rating system.  Letter to the editor of the ACBL Bridge Bulletin.
